Overall Testing Information
- No electronic devices are allowed to be used while testing. This includes, but is not limited to cell phones, PDA’s and cameras.
- Once the testing has started, applicants arriving late will not be given additional time for completing the test.
- Once the test starts, applicants are not allowed to leave the testing area unless directed to do so by the proctor.
- In event an applicant is testing for more than one rank, the applicant will only be able to take one test at a time. The applicant will be offered a 10 minute break between written tests.
- The testing proctor will outline procedures for challenging any of the questions on the test.
- No additional challenges to the test questions will be allowed after the test have been collected.
- Applicants who complete the test early may turn in their test and leave the testing area. They
may not re-enter the testing area during the remainder of the written test without the permission of the proctor.
- At the completion of the test the proctor will collect and secure all testing materials for grading
- Tests will be graded and verified by a panel of instructors knowledgeable in the material being tested.
- A minimum passing score of 70% is required on the Lieutenant exam’s to continue on to the proficiency exam.
- A minimum of 70% on the proficiency exam is required to be placed on the Lieutenant promotional list.
- Upon receiving a passing score on the written exam you will then receive your proficiency exam date, no sooner than 72 hrs from notification.
- You will be notified of your results no later than 12 days following the last proficiency exam.

The written exam will be a 100 question exam taken from the following texts.

Lieutenant Proficiency Exam Information
The Practical Exam will encompass the following four skills.
a. In basket
b. Fire scenario
c. Rescue scenario
d. Teaching / Education
Possible teaching / education topics include:
All materials will be provided for the practical and written portion of the test.
Parts b,c and d of the practical test will be video taped for scoring.
Failure of any portion of the practical test, will result in the applicant not being considered for promotion.
